Târnova (German: Tirnowa , Hungarian: Tornó ) is a municipality in the Caraș-Severin County , Banat , Romania . The village of Bratova also belongs to the municipality of Târnova .

Geographical location

Târnova is located in the north of the Caraș-Severin County, on the DJ582A county road, 9 km from Reșița .

history

The town of Tornowo was first mentioned in the historical documents in 1428 when King Sigismund stopped here for a few days. In 1495 the Bizerea family owned the estate. In 1495 the name Thernova , 1500 Ternova and 1717 Tirnova appear in the contemporary documents. From 1552 to 1658 the village belonged to the Lugoscher and Caransebescher Banat .

On the Josephine land survey of 1717 the place Tirnova is registered with 76 houses. From 1769 the village was part of the Banat military border . In 1885 Tirnova came into the possession of the Austro-Hungarian State Railway Company (StEG) . Iron ore, manganese and quartz were mined in Tirnova and processed in the Reșița blast furnaces .

The Treaty of Trianon on June 4, 1920 resulted in the Banat being divided into three parts , whereby Târnova fell to the Kingdom of Romania . In the interwar period, Târnova belonged to the Reșița chair district.
