Zorlențu Mare (German: Sorlens , Groß-Sorlens , Hungarian: Zorlencz , Alsózorlenc , Serbo-Croatian: Velichi Zorlenci ) is a municipality in the Caraș-Severin district , in the Banat region , in southwest Romania . The village of Zorlencior also belongs to the municipality of Zorlențu Mare .
Geographical location
Zorlențu Mare is located in the north of the Caraș-Severin County, on the county roads DJ 608B and DJ 587, 40 km from Reșița and 25 km from Caransebeş .

history
Over the centuries different spellings of the place name occurred: 1499 Zorilencz , 1503 Zorlencz , 1808 Zorlencz , Zorlenczul-mare , 1888 Nagy-Zorlencz , 1913 Alsózorlenc , 1919 Zorlențul-mare , Zorlențu Mare
On the Josephine land survey of 1717 Velichi Zorlenci is registered with 150 houses. After the Peace of Passarowitz (1718) the village was part of the Habsburg crown domain Temescher Banat .
As a result of the Austro-Hungarian Compromise (1867), the Banat was annexed to the Kingdom of Hungary within the dual monarchy of Austria-Hungary . The official place name was Alsózorlenc .
The Treaty of Trianon on June 4, 1920 resulted in the Banat being divided into three parts , whereby Zorlențu Mare fell to the Kingdom of Romania .
