history
Șopotu Nou ( New Schopot ) was founded in 1828 when 56 families from Șopotu Vechi ( Old Schopot ) settled here on the instructions of the Vienna Court Chamber . When a flood destroyed the village in 1910, the residents fled to the mountains, where they founded new settlements. This is how the ten villages that belong to the municipality were created. The village of Ravensca is inhabited by Czechs from Bohemia and Moravia , who were settled here in 1829.
The Treaty of Trianon on June 4, 1920 resulted in the Banat being divided into three parts , whereby Șopotu Nou fell to the Kingdom of Romania .
