history

Bozovici was first mentioned in documents in 1484 on the occasion of a gift from King Matthias Corvinus to Lazar de Bozovici. However, traces of human life can be traced back to archaeological finds since the Neolithic , as well as from Roman times . In the Middle Ages Bozovici was the administrative center of the Romanian district "Almascherer Land" (Țara Almăjului). After the conquest of Banat by the Habsburg Monarchy (1718) the place military, administrative and political center of the Alma district shear was and belonged to Banat military border , which in 1751 by Pantschowa about Weisskirchen , Mehadia and Caransebes was founded. In 1768 the "Wallachian Battalion" was set up. It had four companies and 2,383 border guards in Topleț , Globurău , Ilova and Ohaba-Bistra, now part of Oțelu Roșu . In 1773 border guards from the Almascher Land were added. In 1775 the "Wallachian Battalion" was combined with the "Illyrian Regiment" to form the "Wallachian-Illyrian Regiment". In 1777 the existence of a "German NCO School" is recorded in Bosowitsch. In 1845, when the "Illyrian-Banat Regiment" was set up in Weißkirchen as a result of the restructuring of the military border, this also included three regiments from the "Almascher Land", which had their headquarters in Bozovici, Dalboşeț and Prigor .

In the first decade of the 20th century, the law for the Magyarization of place names (Ga. 4/1898) was applied, including the Magyarization of all toponyms on maps , land register extracts and city maps . The official place name was Bozovics . The Hungarian place names remained valid until the administrative reform of 1923 in the Kingdom of Romania , when the Romanian place names were introduced.

The Treaty of Trianon on June 4, 1920 resulted in the Banat being divided into three parts , whereby Bozovici fell to the Kingdom of Romania .
