The Nera ( Romanian ; Hungarian Néra ; Serbian Нера / Nera ) is a river in the southwest of Romania , which is particularly known for its gorges. It is in parts the border river to Serbia.

The Nera rises north of Borlovenii Vechi in the Semenic Mountains , which belong to the Banat Mountains . After approx. 70 kilometers, the Nera flows through a karst gorge around 30 kilometers long and up to 600 meters deep between Șopotu Nou and Sasca Română , which forms the core area of the Nera Gorge National Park (Romanian Cheile Nerei-Beușnița ). In addition to numerous caves, there are also sintered terraces , other travert information and karst phenomena such as the Lacul Dracului ("Devil's Lake") in a collapsed cave.
On its last 15 kilometers, the Nera forms the border river to Serbia and flows into the Danube at (Danube) kilometer 1075 .
