Gideon von Krismanic (born April 22, 1817 in Bozovici , † May 23, 1876 in Petrovaradin ) was an Austrian officer , most recently major general .

Life

Krismanic attended the Theresian Military Academy from 1828 to 1836 , from which he graduated as the best of his year. He joined the 62nd Infantry Regiment as a lieutenant and was assigned to the general quartermaster staff in June 1839, where he participated in the mapping of Bohemia and Hungary and the description of the regions of Tyrol and Northern Italy .

From 1848 to 1849 he took part in the general quartermaster staff in the campaign in Italy . In 1849 he was promoted to major .

In April 1851 he was Chief of Staff of the IX. Corps. Mobilization occurred during the Crimean War and Krismanic was used in Transylvania and Bukovina .

In 1856 he headed the War History Office and undertook diplomatic missions. In 1859 Krismanic taught war history and strategy at the kuk war school and in the same year took part in the Battle of Solferino with distinction .

After serving as chief of staff, he became major general in 1864 and put down an uprising in Friuli in late 1864 .

In 1866 he was head of the operations office of the Northern Army, where he drafted the plan of operations for the German War .

One day before the battle of Königgrätz he was removed from his post and brought before a court martial. He was mainly accused of the defensive orientation of the plan. The investigation was discontinued and Krismanic retired on November 1, 1866.

Reactivated in June 1872, he became the commandant of the fortress in Petrovaradin, where he also died on May 23, 1876.
