- In Portugal , an uprising by liberal and Masonic forces against the military dictatorship under William Carr Beresford fails . Several conspirators, including Gomes Freire de Andrade , are arrested and executed on October 18 .
- 18 / October 19 : About 500 student representatives from German universities meet in protest against their opinion, reactionary political system for Wartburg Festival in Eisenach . Several professors from the University of Jena also take part, namely the doctors Dietrich Georg von Kieser and Lorenz Oken , the historian Heinrich Luden and the philosopher Jakob Friedrich Fries .
