history
The fort , built by the Russian-American company before 1817, goes back to its agent Georg Anton Schäffer . He had negotiated a protectorate treaty for the Russian crown with the ruler of the island, Kaumualii , without the knowledge of Petersburg . In autumn 1817, the settlers of the company of left with Schaffer the island and the fortification was of Scottish officer Alexander Adams on behalf of King Kamehameha I. repossessed.
