Film, literature and entertainment
The entertainment media were often devoted to the American War of Independence . More recently, the movie The Patriot (2000) starring Mel Gibson , the action of which begins in 1776 , caught the eye. Another great classic on the subject is the film Revolution with Al Pacino and Donald Sutherland (1985). Sporadically, however, people also think about the Sturm und Drang , an important literary epoch in Germany that flourished in the 1770s. In this fertile decade, the young Goethe began to create and, in addition to numerous poems, created the novel The Sorrows of Young Werther , the drama Götz von Berlichingen , and the original version of Faust . Mozart achieved European fame on his travels through northern Italy, and Diderot and d'Alembert complete their encyclopedia.
