United States of America
- March 4 : Republican Benjamin Harrison becomes the 23rd President of the United States . He replaces the Democrat Grover Cleveland . Harrison's Vice President becomes Levi P. Morton .
- March 23 : President Harrison signs a proclamation allowing non-indigenous settlers to settle a large part of the former Indian territory. Most of the remaining Indian territory in the Oklahoma region is predominantly the tribal area of the Five Civilized Nations , the Cherokee , Chickasaw , Choctaw , Muskogee and Seminole tribes . These strains are to 1838/39 at Trail of Tears forcibly removed from their ancestral homeland in the existing as inhospitable Oklahoma Territory forcibly relocated been where they had to share the land with local tribes. Harrison's proclamation takes effect a month later.
