William Charles Aalsmeer
William Charles Aalsmeer (born October 17, 1889 in Paramaribo , † April 29, 1957 in The Hague ) was a Dutch cardiologist . He worked at the Medical Clinic of the Dutch-Indian Medical School in Surabaya ( Java ).
Aalsmeer test
Aalsmeer developed the Aalsmeer test, named after him, in which the intramuscular injection of 1 mg adrenaline leads to a temporary worsening of the cardiovascular symptoms in Beri-Beri disease . The blood pressure drops within an hour to the immeasurable range.
It was later found that this adrenaline effect, which occurs in beriberi, also occurs in other diseases with similar peripheral circulatory disorders. For example, depending on the degree of circulatory disorder, there are strikingly similar reactions in aortic regurgitation and Graves' disease . The adrenaline effect in combination with the reduced minimum pressure shows the degree or scope of the defect in the circulation better than the so-called pulse pressure .
