Teodósio Clemente de Gouveia
Teodósio Clemente Cardinal de Gouveia (born May 13, 1889 in São Jorge , Madeira , Portugal ; † February 6, 1962 in Lourenço Marques ) was Archbishop of Lourenço Marques (Maputo) .
Life
Teódosio Clemente de Gouveia attended the Lazarists' seminary in Dax, France, and then studied Catholic theology and philosophy in Paris , Rome ( Pontifical Portuguese College ), Bergamo and Leuven . In 1919 he received the sacrament of ordination . In the years 1919 to 1929 he taught at the seminary of Funchal while also working as a church pastor. From 1929 to 1936 he was Vice Rector and Rector of the Portuguese College in Rome.
In 1936 Pope Pius XI appointed him . Titular Bishop of Leuce and appoint him as prelate for Mozambique . The episcopal ordination received his Raffaele Cardinal Carlo Rossi . In 1941 Teódosio Clemente de Gouveia became the first archbishop of the newly established Archdiocese of Lourenço Marques , today's Maputo. On February 18, 1946, Pope Pius XII took him . as a cardinal priest with the titular church of San Pietro in Vincoli in the college of cardinals . Teódosio Clemente de Gouveia died on February 6, 1962 in Maputo and was buried in the local cathedral .
