Planetarium Jena 1926
  • 1926: The Jena Planetarium is opened. At the time the fourth of its kind in the world, it is now the oldest that is still in operation.
  • 1938: Due to a "navigation error", the aviation pioneer Douglas Corrigan lands in Ireland instead on his flight from New York to California. He is nicknamed "Wrong Way" for this Atlantic flight.
  • 1942: The world's first operational jet fighter, the Messerschmitt Me 262 , completes its maiden flight.
  • 1952: The German Fulbright Commission is founded. It allows the Fulbright program on scholarship students and academics to study in the United States and vice versa in Germany.
