Gloster Van Richardson (born July 18, 1941 in Greenville , Mississippi , USA - † February 27, 2020 in Chicago , Illinois ) was an American American football player. He played as a wide receiver in the National Football League (NFL) with the Dallas Cowboys and Cleveland Browns and in the American Football League with the Kansas City Chiefs .
Player career
College career
Gloster Richardson attended high school in his hometown . After graduating from school, he moved to Jackson State University , where he played as a wide receiver for the Jackson State Tigers College Football . He developed into a service provider and was chosen twice in the selection league selection.
Professional career
Gloster Richardson was established in 1967 by the Kansas City Chiefs in the seventh round to 50th place drafted . The Chiefs supervised by Hank Stram were a top team in the American Football League (AFL). In 1969, the Chiefs won eleven of the 14th games in the regular season , making it into the play-offs . First, the New York Jets could be beaten 13: 6, with Richardson utilizing a pass from quarterback Len Dawson for a touchdown . With a subsequent 17: 7 win against the Oakland Raiders , the title in the AFL could be won. In the following Super Bowl IV , the team from Richardson was able to prevail against the Minnesota Vikings with 23: 7.
In 1971 , Richardson moved to the Dallas Cowboys, trained by Tom Landry . This season, Richardson won eleven of 14 games with the Cowboys in the regular season , making it into the play-offs for the second time in his career . After a 14: 3 win over the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship Game , they made it into Super Bowl VI . In this game, the Cowboys celebrated a 24-3 victory over the Miami Dolphins .
After that season, Richardson moved to the Oakland Raiders. However, he was transferred to the Cleveland Browns before the 1972 season . After the 1974 season he ended his career, but returned again in 1983 to football and was assistant coach at Mississippi Valley State College . As coach of the wide receiver, he looked after Jerry Rice .
Off the field
In addition to Gloster, his brothers were also active as football players. Willie Richardson won the NFL title with the Baltimore Colts in 1968 . Tom Richardson played for the Boston Patriots and Ernie Richardson played for the Cleveland Browns.
He himself died in Chicago. His grave is not known.
