Thomas Raymond "Tom" Flores (* 21st March 1937 in Sanger , California ) is a former American American football poker players, trainers and -Funktionär. He served in the National Football League (NFL) and won the Super Bowl as a player, assistant coach and head coach .
Player career
Tom Flores' playing career as a quarterback began very hesitantly. After he was not sent to the NFL Draft , he tried in 1958 in the Canadian Football League (CFL) with the Calgary Stampeders and in 1959 in the NFL with the Washington Redskins . With both teams he was fired before the season. In 1960 he found acceptance with the Oakland Raiders , which were based in the newly formed American Football League (AFL). At the Raiders he was used as a starter in his first year of play . 1967 moved to the Buffalo Bills and 1969 during the season to the Kansas City Chiefs trained by Hank Stram . Flores became a substitute behind the Chiefs' regular quarterback Len Dawson . With the Chiefs, Flores won Super Bowl III against the Minnesota Vikings 23-7 . Immediately after the game, he ended his playing career.
Coaching career
Immediately after his playing career, Flores was assistant coach at the Buffalo Bills and shortly afterwards assistant to John Madden at the Raiders. In 1976 the Raiders moved into Super Bowl XI , where the Vikings were defeated 32:14. In 1979, Flores took over the post of Head Coach for the Oakland team and held that post until 1987.
In 1980 he won the first of two Super Bowls as head coach. The Philadelphia Eagles lost in Super Bowl XV against the Raiders, led by Jim Plunkett as quarterback, 10:27 after they had previously won eleven of 16 games in the regular season . Three years later, the Flores team , which had meanwhile moved to Los Angeles , beat the Washington Redskins 38: 9 in Super Bowl XVIII .
Football official
After the 1987 season, Flores moved to the management of the Raiders. From 1992 to 1994, he was General Manager of the Seattle Seahawks .
Honors
Flores played once in the Pro Bowl , the season finale game for the best players of the season. Besides Mike Ditka, he is the only person who has won the Super Bowl as a player, assistant coach and head coach. Sanger High School named their stadium after him. In 2007 he was inducted into the California Sports Hall of Fame .
Off the field
Flores is still involved in broadcasting the Raiders' games on a local radio station as co-host.
