The Super Bowl XL was the 40th Super Bowl , the final of the 2005 season of the National Football League (NFL) in American football . On February 5, 2006, the Seattle Seahawks (13: 3) and the Pittsburgh Steelers (11: 5) faced each other at Ford Field in Detroit , Michigan . The Steelers were considered favorites because they had the worse season and only the sixth and lowest seeding rank, but then prevailed in three away games.
The winner was the Pittsburgh Steelers with a final score of 21:10, it was their fifth triumph in the sixth Super Bowl participation.
The Pittsburgh Steelers' Antwaan Randle El became the first wide receiver to throw a touchdown pass in a Super Bowl . Another wide receiver of the Steelers was chosen for the Super Bowl MVP with Hines Ward .
