For the Super Bowl LVI there was not the usual application process. On May 24, 2016, the Super Bowl LV was originally awarded to the planned new stadium in Inglewood, California. Due to delays in the completion of the new stadium in Inglewood, it was decided on May 23, 2017 to award the Super Bowl LV to Tampa and then to host Super Bowl LVI in Inglewood the following year.
