The Super Bowl XXX was the 30th edition of the Super Bowl , the final of the National Football League (NFL) in American football . On January 28, 1996, the National Football Conference (NFC) master , the Dallas Cowboys , competed against the American Football Conference (AFC) master , the Pittsburgh Steelers , at Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe , Arizona . The Dallas Cowboys won the game 27:17, their fifth Super Bowl. The linebacker the Cowboys, Charles Haley , who twice with the San Francisco 49ers and now for the third time with the Cowboys won the Super Bowl, became the first player to win five Super Bowls. For Super Bowl MVP was cornerback the Cowboys, Larry Brown , selected.

Season course

The Dallas Cowboys were able to qualify for the play-offs as the best NFC team with a score of 12: 4 . In the divisional play-offs, the Cowboys prevailed 30:11 against the Philadelphia Eagles . In the NFC Championship Game they beat the Green Bay Packers 38:27. The Pittsburgh Steelers finished the regular season with a score of 11: 5. In the play-offs they could first against the Buffalo Bills and then in the AFC Championship Game against the Indianapolis Colts .

Course of the game

First halftime

The Super Bowl started with a kickoff from the Pittsburgh Steelers. With their first series of attacks, the Dallas Cowboys were able to score with a 42 yard field goal . The Cowboys were also able to successfully complete the next two series of attacks and took a 13-0 lead. The Steelers were only able to score 13 seconds before the end of the first half. Their wide receiver Yancey Thigpen scored a touchdown .

Second halftime

Dallas Cowboys cornerback Larry Brown intercepted the ball 44 yards to the Steelers' 18-yard line. From there, quarterback Troy Aikman passed the ball to wide receiver Michael Irvin , who carried him to the 1-yard line. From there, running back Emmitt Smith scored a touchdown to 20: 7 for the Cowboys. A field goal shortened the Steelers to 20:10 and a touchdown to 20:17. In the final quarter, Emmit Smith scored another touchdown and scored the points for the final score of 27:17 for the Dallas Cowboys.
