The Super Bowl XV was the 15th Super Bowl of the National Football League (NFL). On January 25, 1981, the Oakland Raiders and the Philadelphia Eagles faced each other at the Louisiana Superdome in New Orleans , Louisiana . The Oakland Raiders won with a final score of 27:10. Oakland quarterback Jim Plunkett , who completed 13 of 31 passes for 261 yards and three touchdowns , was named Super Bowl MVP . The Raiders are the first wild card team to win a Super Bowl.
Course of the game
The Raiders made the first points of Super Bowl XV with a touchdown pass from Plunkett to Cliff Branch , followed in the same quarter by another touchdown, with an 80 yard pass to Kenny King , which gave the Raiders a 14-0 lead. The second quarter remained without points except for a field goal by Tony Franklin for the Eagles, so both teams went into the half-time break with a score of 14: 3. In the second half of the game, Jim Plunkett threw his third touchdown pass in the game, a 29-yard pass to Cliff Branch. Then followed a field goal by Chris Bahrs , also for the Raiders. In the same quarter, the Eagles made another touchdown. The game ended with a field goal on the part of the Raiders, which led to the final score of 27:10.
