‹ Super Bowl IX | Super Bowl XI › |
The Super Bowl X was the tenth Super Bowl of the National Football League (NFL). On January 18, 1976, the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Dallas Cowboys faced each other at Orange Bowl Stadium in Miami , Florida . The winner was the Pittsburgh Steelers with a final score of 21:17. Pittsburgh wide receiver Lynn Swann was the first to be elected Super Bowl MVP in that position .
background
Due to an injury to Swann, Pittsburgh's best wide receiver, at the previous AFC Championship Game , many sports reporters and fans thought he wasn't going to play and if he was, he'd be on the field as a distraction.
Some scenes of the Super Bowl were filmed for the feature film Schwarzer Sonntag .
Course of the game
In the first quarter, both teams could each achieve a touchdown . The second and third quarters were without points except for a field goal by Toni Fritsch on the part of the cowboys. Only in the last quarter there were points again, the Steelers were able to score two more points with a safety on a punt . This was followed by two field goals and a touchdown. In the end, the Cowboys scored a meaningless touchdown which led to the final score of 21:17.
