The Orange Bowl was an American football - stadium in Miami , Florida , USA . It was home to the University of Miami college football team , the Hurricanes. Until the opening of the Dolphin Stadium in 1987, the Miami Dolphins from the NFL also played here . The Orange Bowl trophy in college football , which was actually named after this stadium, has now (since 1996) also been played in the new Dolphins Stadium .

In addition to football games, concerts and other events were also held here. There was space for up to 82,000 spectators.

In March 2008, the Orange Bowl Stadium was demolished to make way for the 37,000-seat Marlins Park baseball stadium, where the Miami Marlins have been playing since 2012 .
