The Lucas Oil Stadium is a football stadium in Indianapolis , Indiana . The stadium was built and opened in 2008 to replace the 1984 RCA Dome as the home of the NFL Indianapolis Colts team . The stadium offers 62,421 seats for Colts games . For special events such as a Super Bowl or final rounds in NCAA college basketball, the capacity can be increased to a maximum of 70,000 visitors.

On February 28, 2006 it was announced that the engine oil manufacturer Lucas Oil Products had acquired the naming rights for 20 years and 122 million US dollars. Previously the stadium was known as the Indiana Stadium.

Construction

The stadium has a closable roof. This means that the events can be held regardless of the weather. On the north and south sides, the stadium has a large glass wall that can also be opened.

Events

Country singer Kenny Chesney held the first public concert at Lucas Oil Stadium on September 13, 2008. On February 5, 2012, the Super Bowl XLVI was played here in front of 68,658 visitors.
