The Gillette Stadium is a football - stadium in the American US city Foxborough in the state of Massachusetts . It is mainly used for American football and soccer games. The New England Patriots ( National Football League ) football team and the New England Revolution ( Major League Soccer ) football team play their home games at Gillette Stadium. In the 2015 season, the Boston Cannons from the Major League Lacrosse played their home games at the Foxborough Stadium.

history

The stadium opened in 2002 and replaced the old Foxboro Stadium . The stadium's original name was CMGI Field before The Gillette Company acquired the naming rights. Gillette merged with Procter & Gamble in 2005 , but this will not affect the stadium's name. The venue, called The Razor by the locals, has a capacity of 68,756 spectators. In 2002, the final of the MLS took place at Gillette Stadium . In 2003, games in the CONCACAF Gold Cup as well as two games in the group stage and two quarter-finals in the Women's World Cup (each as a double event) took place at the Gillette Stadium. In 2005, 2007 and 2009, games of the CONCACAF Gold Cup also took place there.

In early 2016, the NHL Winter Classic was held at Foxborough Stadium for the first time. The open-air ice hockey game was played by the Boston Bruins and the Canadiens de Montréal .
