Naming
During the last game of the 1923 season against Miami University, the player James Gamble "Jimmy" Nippert suffered an open wound. A month later he died of blood poisoning , presumably the result of chickens dropping out of a previous chicken race. His grandfather James N. Gamble from Procter & Gamble then donated the funds to complete the stadium, which included a changing room and medical facilities to ensure the safety of the players. On November 8, 1924, the James Gamble Nippert Memorial Stadium was inaugurated .
