The Red Bull Arena is a soccer stadium in the US city of Harrison in the state of New Jersey . The New York Red Bulls from Major League Soccer (MLS) have played their home games here since the 2010 season . The Red Bulls' reserve also uses the facility for their home games in the United Soccer League . From the 2020 season, the home games of Sky Blue FC from the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) will also take place in the stadium. The owner of the Red Bull Arena is Red Bull Arena, Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Red Bull GmbH .

history

The stadium was opened with a friendly game between the Red Bulls and the traditional Brazilian club FC Santos on March 20, 2010. The game ended 3-1 for the Red Bulls. The Red Bulls played their first competitive game a week later. On March 27, the first day of the 2010 season, Chicago Fire was a guest.

The stadium has space for 25,000 spectators. A translucent roof covers all the stands, but not the playing field.

Delays

The project, which until August 18, 2008 was still known as Red Bull Park, was delayed several times:

The original plan was that the then MetroStars (as Red Bull New York was previously named) could move into the new stadium for the 2006 season. Disagreements between the MLS and the state of New Jersey delayed this. The opening planned for the 2007 season was postponed again due to environmental objections.

The foundation stone was laid on September 19, 2006, but the start of construction was delayed again after Red Bull GmbH bought the MetroStars . Due to disagreements with the previous owner of the Red Bulls, the Anschutz Entertainment Group , who still owned the stadium, Red Bull bought their shares and changed the stadium design again. Construction work finally began at the end of December 2007 and the stadium was completed in early 2010.
