The CenturyLink Field is an American football - and football stadium in the US city of Seattle in the state of Washington . The Seattle Seahawks from the National Football League (NFL) are based here . The Seattle Sounders football franchise from Major League Soccer (MLS) also uses the facility as its home stadium.

history

The stadium was opened on July 28, 2002 and replaced the former Kingdome at the same place . The stadium's original name was Seahawks Stadium , affectionately known as The Hawk by fans . After the telephone company Qwest bought the name rights , the name was changed to Qwest Field on June 2, 2004. After Qwest was taken over by the telecommunications company CenturyLink , it was renamed CenturyLink Field in June 2011 .

The stadium roof is constructed in such a way that when it rains, which is very common in the city, and winds from the main wind direction, only the coaches and substitutes of the away team get wet and those of the home team, which is at least always opposite in football, stay dry. Ironically, after the Seahawks played at CenturyLink Field, there were 28 straight home games played without a drop of rain. Their first game with rain was against the Dallas Cowboys on October 23, 2005. The Seahawks won 13:10.

Another special feature of the architecture is that the noise builds up under the roof structure, as wanted by Seahawks owner Paul Allen . This enables enormous noise levels, which earned the stadium the title Loudest Stadium in the NFL . It is still being discussed to what extent the fans are responsible for the noise, especially since the previous stadium, the Kingdome, had a reputation for being extremely loud. Proof of the loudness could be the penalty statistics from the 2005/06 season, which show that no other NFL stadium received as many (24) false start penalties as CenturyLink Field. Official volume measurements are not performed by the NFL.

From October 4th to 7th, 2007 the final of the computer game tournament World Cyber Games 2007 took place in the stadium .
