history

CenturyLink dates back to Central Telephone and Electronics , incorporated in 1968 . This was renamed Century Telephone Enterprises in 1971 and went public in 1978. The CenturyLink name was adopted after the acquisition of Embarq in 2009 . In 2011, Qwest and Savvis were taken over.

In late October 2016, the company announced that it would acquire Level 3 Communications for $ 25 billion. The acquisition was completed in November 2017.
