Savvis was a US company with headquarters in Town and Country , in the US state of Missouri , which operated one of the largest Internet backbones as a tier 1 carrier . The network comprised around 27,000 kilometers of fiber optic cable in 45 countries. In addition, Savvis had 29 data centers in the US, Europe and Asia with a total area of over 130,000 square meters. Large companies and authorities were among the customers.

history

The company was founded in 1995 under the name Diamond.Net as an Internet access provider for companies. Diamond.Net was able to win Apple as its first major customer , which resulted in large orders from other companies such as amazon.com . In 1996, an investor joined Diamond.Net, caused the name to be changed to Savvis and accelerated further expansion.

In April 1999, Savvis was acquired by Bridge Information Systems and floated on the stock exchange in February 2000.

In early 2004, Savvis bought the US subsidiary of Cable & Wireless for 155 million US dollars, including 3,000 contracts with major customers, 15 data centers and the global tier 1 backbone. Cable & Wireless USA took over the backbone from MCI in 1998 and bought the bankrupt web host Exodus in 2001, which in addition to data centers also operated its own backbone.

In 2011, Savvis was acquired by CenturyLink .
