history

The MLS - Inter Miami franchise , which is owned by an owner group led by David Beckham and will start playing for the 2020 MLS season , wants to build a new 25,000-seat stadium in Miami , Florida , which is to be completed by the 2022 season. The plans also provided for a stadium to be built on the grounds of the Lockhart Stadium in nearby Fort Lauderdale for the first two seasons of the franchise . In addition to a stadium with a capacity of 18,000, a training complex is to be built that the professional team and the academy will use. In May 2019, the demolition of the Lockhart Stadium began and then the construction of the new stadium, which mainly consists of steel stands. The cost of the project amounted to about 60 million US dollars . In addition to the MLS team, the Fort Lauderdale CF farm team will play their home games permanently in the stadium.

The stadium's opening was scheduled for March 14, 2020 as part of Inter Miami's first MLS home game against Beckham's former team, the LA Galaxy . Due to the COVID-19 pandemic , however, the MLS suspended game operations in March and initially took it in early July 2020 with the MLS-is-back tournament at Champion Stadium , which is part of the Walt Disney World Resort near Orlando , Florida , back on. The stadium finally opened on July 18, 2020 with the first game of Fort Lauderdale CF in USL League One , lost as a ghost game 2-0 to Greenville triumph .

Surname

The stadium was also called Lockhart Stadium and Fort Lauderdale Stadium during construction . These names were already wearing the Lockhart Stadium and a few meters away ballpark Fort Lauderdale Stadium , both of which were demolished for the construction of the stadium and the training ground. The Inter Miami stadium is now referred to as the Inter Miami Stadium or Inter Miami CF Stadium .
