The USL League One is a professional men's soccer league in the United States and Canada .
The league was founded in 2017 under the provisional name USL Division III and will start operating in 2019. The USL belongs to and is operated by the United Soccer Leagues organization.
history
The United Soccer League was officially named the USA's second division by the United States Soccer Federation in January 2017 . As a result, she moved up one place in the league hierarchy. Thus there was no official third division in the country.
The USL had already provided an official third division in the country from 1996 to 2009 with the USL Second Division . On April 2, 2007, the USL announced that it would provide an official third division from the 2019 season. This will consist of 8 teams.
On January 25, 2018, South Georgia Tormenta FC, the first USL Division III franchise, was unveiled. The team has played in the USL Premier Development League so far . Additional teams were announced in the weeks that followed. With FC Tucson, another team from the PDL is added. Toronto FC II moves from the United Soccer League to the new league and new franchises have been established in Greenville, Chattanooga and Madison.
On August 22, 2018, Rochester Stadium Operations, LLC announced that the Rochester Rhinos will compete in the league starting in the 2020 season. On September 11, 2018, the Richmond Kickers announced their participation for the 2019 season.
On November 2, 2018, FC Dallas and the USL announced that the Major League Soccer franchise will add another team, North Texas SC, to USL League One.
For the 2020 season, three more teams were added with Union Omaha , Fort Lauderdale CF and New England Revolution II . On October 21, 2019, Lansing Ignite ceased operations in USL1.

The USL League One is directed and organized by the United Soccer Leagues . The USL was founded in 1986 and is headquartered in Tampa , Florida . In addition to the USL, the organization also operates other amateur and youth leagues.
