The Lansing Ignite Football Club , Lansing Ignite for short , was an American football franchise of the USL League One from Lansing , Michigan .

The team Lansing Ignite, founded in 2018, played one season in the USL League One, the third highest division in the USA.

history

The Lansing United team was active in Lansing from 2014 to 2018. This played in the National Premier Soccer League until 2017 . For the 2018 season, they switched to the Premier Development League , which was operated by the United Soccer Leagues organization. This should be another step towards a professional football team.

As early as 2017, the USL began looking for new locations to found a new league. Lansing also came into consideration here. In September 2018, the owners of the minor league baseball team Lansing Lugnuts announced that they would set up a soccer franchise in the city, which will also play in their stadium. The city approved the plans to renovate the stadium. Thus Lansing Ignite could be founded and Lansing United was then dissolved. The previous owner of United, Jeremy Sampson, became the new general manager of the franchise.

On March 19, 2019, Ignite announced a partnership with Major League Soccer club Chicago Fire .

The team finished the first season with 2nd place in the regular season. In the subsequent play-offs they lost in the semifinals against Greenville triumph .

On October 21, 2019, the franchise announced that it would cease gaming after just one season.
