The USL League Two (USL2) is an amateur football league in the United States and Canada . It is considered a development league and, together with the National Premier Soccer League, constitutes the highest amateur league in the USA.
It is subordinate to the United Soccer Leagues and, together with the National Premier Soccer League, is regarded as the fourth highest level in American football . There is no promotion or relegation regulation. The league was founded in 1995 as part of the restructuring of regional North American football. In the 2015 season, a total of 67 teams will compete in four conferences .
At the end of September 2018, the league was renamed USL League Two. This happened as part of an announcement about the realignment of the United Soccer Leagues.
particularities
The USL2 is primarily an amateur league, but teams that pay their players are also increasingly taking part in the game. Since 2007, eight USL League Two teams have qualified for participation in the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup .
The squad size is limited to 26 players, of which a maximum of eight may be over 23 years old, and 3 players must be under 18. The league is used by many college players during the college soccer break during the summer months , as players can take part in the league without losing their college eligibility.
Some teams also serve as minor league teams for franchises from the Major League Soccer and the United Soccer League .
Before the start of the 2015 game year, there was another name change in American football; in February 2015 the former ULS Pro was renamed the United Soccer League again and the previous USL PDL lost its catchphrase USL and from now on only appeared as the Premier Development League .
