Grand Prairie is a city in Dallas County in the US state of Texas , United States .

geography

The city in north-east Texas is about 25 km southwest of Dallas and 23 km east of Fort Worth , it is about 100 km north of Oklahoma . With smaller parts of the city, this also extends into Tarrant County and Ellis County . The Mountain Creek Lake is located in the east and the Joe Pool Lake in the south of Grand Prairie.

history

The first settlers came to this area before the civil war and settled there. The first post office was opened in 1874, the first church that also served as a school was built in 1875, and the Texas and Pacific Railway moved nearby in 1876 , and by 1890 the town had 300 residents. In 1900 the first telephone connection was laid.

Transport and economy

Grand Prairie has good transport links through two airfields within a ten kilometer radius, the railroad, the US highways 80 , 161 and 303 as well as the interstate highways 20 and 30 and the highway No. 1382. The airports also include the approx. Grand Prairie Municipal Airport is four kilometers northwest of the city center .
