The Tarrant County is a county in the state of Texas of the United States . The county seat is Fort Worth .
geography
The county is located about 200 km northeast of the geographic center of Texas and is part of the Dallas / Fort Worth Metroplex . It has an area of 2,324 km², of which 88 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Denton County , Dallas County , Johnson County , Parker County, and Wise County .
history
Tarrant County was formed in 1849 from parts of Navarro County . It was named after Edward H. Tarrant , a general who drove the Indians out of what would later become the county.

According to the 2000 census , Tarrant County had 1,446,219 people in 533,864 households and 369,433 families. The population density was 647 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 71.23 percent white, 12.80 percent African American, 0.57 percent Native American, 3.64 percent Asian, 0.16 percent from the Pacific island area and 9.09 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 2.51 percent were descended from two or more races. 19.73 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 533,864 households, 36.8 percent had children or young people living with them. 52.6 percent were married couples living together, 12.2 percent were single mothers and 30.8 percent were non-families. 24.9 percent were single households and 5.9 percent had people aged 65 or over. The average household size was 2.67 and the average family size was 3.22 people.
28.1 percent of the population was under 18 years old, 10.0 percent between 18 and 24, 33.5 percent between 25 and 44, 20.1 percent between 45 and 64 and 8.3 percent were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 32 years. For every 100 females there were 98.1 males and for every 100 females age 18 or over there were 95.6 males.
The median income for a household in the city is $ 46,179 , and the median income for a family is $ 54,068. Males had a median income of $ 38,486 versus $ 28,672 for females. The per capita income was $ 22,548. 8.0 percent of families and 10.6 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
