The Collingsworth County is a county in the state of Texas of the United States . The county seat is in Wellington . The county is part of the dry counties , which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.
geography
The county is located in the north of the geographic center of Texas in the so-called Texas Panhandle , on the border with Oklahoma and has an area of 2381 square kilometers, of which 2 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Wheeler County , Beckham Counties , and Harmon Counties in Oklahoma, Childress County , Hall Counties , and Donley Counties .
history
Collingsworth County was formed from parts of Bexar County and Young Counties on August 1, 1876 , and the administrative organization was completed on September 30, 1890. It was named after James Collinsworth , the Republic of Texas' first attorney general .
A bridge in the county is listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) as of October 19, 2018.

According to the 2000 census , Collingsworth County's population was 3,206. 53 of these people lived in collective accommodation, the other residents lived in 1,294 households and 916 families. The population density was 1 person per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 79.8 percent white, 5.3 percent African American, 1.6 percent Native American, 0.2 percent Asian and 10.9 percent from other ethnic groups; 2.2 percent were from two or more races. 20.4 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 1,294 households, 29.8 percent had children or young people living with them. 57.5 percent were married couples living together, 9.8 percent were single mothers and 29.2 percent were non-families. 27.8 percent were single households and 17.5 percent had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.44 and the average family size was 2.97 people.
26.4 percent of the population was under 18 years old, 6.6 percent between 18 and 24, 22.6 percent between 25 and 44, 22.5 percent between 45 and 64 and 22.0 percent were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 41 years. For every 100 females there were 93 males and for every 100 females age 18 or over there were 88 males.
The median income for a household in the city is $ 25,438 , and the median income for a family is $ 33,323. Males had a median income of $ 24,808 versus $ 17,679 for females. The per capita income was $ 15,318. 14.8 percent of families and 18.7 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
