The Crosby County is a county in the state of Texas of the United States . The county seat is in Crosbyton . The county is part of the dry counties , which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

The county is located northwest of the geographic center of Texas and covers an area of 2,335 square kilometers, of which 6 square kilometers are water. It is bordered in a clockwise direction by the following counties: Floyd County , Dickens County , Garza County, and Lubbock Counties .
history
Crosby County was formed on August 21, 1876 from parts of Bexar County and Young County , and the administrative organization was completed on September 11, 1886. It was named after Stephen Crosby (1808-1869), a high administrative officer in Texas and steamship captain.

According to the 2000 census , Crosby County's 7,072 people lived in 2,512 households and 1,866 families. The population density was 3 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 63.77 percent white, 3.89 percent African American, 0.54 percent Native American, 0.03 percent Asian, 0.07 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 29.89 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 1.81 percent were descended from two or more races. 48.93 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 2,512 households, 35.6 percent had children or young people living with them. 59.0 percent were married couples living together, 11.4 percent were single mothers and 25.7 percent were non-families. 23.8 percent were single households and 13.4 percent had people aged 65 or over. The average household size was 2.78 and the average family size was 3.30 people.
30.7 percent of the population was under 18 years old, 8.5 percent between 18 and 24, 24.0 percent between 25 and 44, 21.1 percent between 45 and 64 and 15.6 percent were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 34 years. For every 100 females there were 91.1 males and for every 100 females age 18 or over there were 87.2 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $ 25,769 , and the median income for a family was $ 29,891. Males had a median income of $ 23,775 versus $ 17,229 for females. The per capita income was $ 14,445. 22.6 percent of families and 28.1 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
