The Somervell County is a county in the state of Texas of the United States . The county seat is Glen Rose .
geography
The county is located approximately 120 km northeast of the geographic center of Texas and has an area of 497 square kilometers, of which 12 square kilometers are water. It is bordered in a clockwise direction by the following counties: Hood County , Johnson County , Bosque County, and Erath Counties .
history
Somervell County was formed in 1875 from parts of Hood County. It was named after Alexander Somervell , a Texas Revolution soldier and leader of the Somervell Expedition .

As of the 2000 census , Somervell County had 6,809 people in 2,438 households and 1,840 families. The population density was 14 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 92.19 percent white, 0.28 percent African American, 0.69 percent Native American, 0.26 percent Asian, 0.01 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 5.11 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 1.45 percent were descended from two or more races. 13.44 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 2,438 households, 37.4 percent had children or young people living with them. 61.7 percent were married couples living together, 9.6 percent were single mothers, and 24.5 percent were non-families. 21.3 percent were single households and 9.2 percent had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.73 and the average family size was 3.17 people.
28.4 percent of the population was under 18 years old, 7.7 percent between 18 and 24, 26.8 percent between 25 and 44, 23.7 percent between 45 and 64 and 13.3 percent were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were 99.6 males and for every 100 females age 18 or over there were 95.9 males.
The median income for a household in the city is $ 39,404 , and the median income for a family is $ 46,458. Males had a median income of $ 32,463 versus $ 23,381 for females. The per capita income was $ 18,367. 6.1 percent of families and 8.6 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
