The Guadalupe County is a county in the state of Texas of the United States . The county seat is in Seguin .

geography

The county is located southeast of the geographic center of Texas, about halfway to the Gulf of Mexico and has an area of ​​1,850 square kilometers, of which 8 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Hays County , Caldwell County , Gonzales County , Wilson County , Bexar County, and Comal Counties .

history

The Guadalupe County was formed on March 30, 1846 from parts of Bexar County and Gonzalez County. It was named after the Guadalupe River , which got its name in memory of the Virgin of Guadalupe .

According to the 2000 census , Guadalupe County had 89,023 people in 30,900 households and 23,823 families. The population density was 48 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 77.65 percent white, 5.01 percent African American, 0.55 percent Native American, 0.87 percent Asian, 0.10 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 12.76 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 3.07 percent were descended from two or more races. 33.21 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

Of the 30,900 households, 38.3 percent had children or young people living with them. 61.6 percent were married couples living together, 11.2 percent were single mothers and 22.9 percent were non-families. 18.9 percent were single households and 7.6 percent had people aged 65 or over. The average household size was 2.83 and the average family size was 3.23 people.

28.5 percent of the population was under 18 years old, 9.0 percent between 18 and 24, 29.1 percent between 25 and 44, 22.2 percent between 45 and 64 and 11.3 percent were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 35 years. For every 100 females there were 97 males and for every 100 females age 18 or over there were 94.3 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $ 43,949 , and the median income for a family is $ 49,645. Males had a median income of $ 32,450 versus $ 23,811 for females. The per capita income was $ 18,430. 7.3 percent of families and 9.8 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
