The Blanco County is a county in the state of Texas of the United States . The county seat is in Johnson City .

The county is located southeast of the geographic center of Texas and has an area of ​​1,848 square kilometers, of which 6 square kilometers are water. It is bordered by counties in a clockwise direction: Burnet County , Travis County , Hays County , Comal County , Kendall County , Gillespie County, and Llano County .

history

Blanco County was formed on February 12, 1858 from parts of Burnet County, Comal County, Gillespie County and Hays County. It was named after the Blanco River . This is called “Blanco” (German: White ) after the Spanish , because chalky rock gives the river a corresponding color.

One place in the county has National Historic Landmark status , the Lyndon Baines Johnson Boyhood Home . Four buildings and sites in the county are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) (as of October 1, 2018).

According to the 2000 census , Blanco County had 8,418 people in 3,303 households and 2,391 families. The population density was 5 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 90.97 percent white, 0.74 percent African American, 0.59 percent Native American, 0.19 percent Asian, 0.01 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 5.88 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 1.62 percent were descended from two or more races. 15.32 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

Of the 3,303 households, 30.4 percent had children or young people living with them. 61.5 percent were married couples living together, 7.2 percent were single mothers and 27.6 percent were non-families. 24.0 percent were single households and 10.8 percent had people aged 65 or over. The average household size was 2.50 and the average family size was 2.96 people.

24.4 percent of the population was under 18 years old, 6.2 percent between 18 and 24, 25.6 percent between 25 and 44, 27.1 percent between 45 and 64 and 16.7 percent were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 41 years. For every 100 females there were 97.7 males and for every 100 females age 18 or over there were 94.9 males.

The median income for a household in the county is $ 39,369 , and the median income for a family is $ 45,382. Males had a median income of $ 31,717 versus $ 21,879 for females. The per capita income was $ 19,721. 8.1 percent of families and 11.2 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
