The Knox County is a county in the state of Texas of the United States . The county seat is in Benjamin . The county is part of the dry counties , which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

The county is located north of the geographic center of Texas, about 70 km from the Oklahoma border and has an area of ​​2216 square kilometers, of which 17 square kilometers are water. It is bordered by counties in a clockwise direction: Foard County , Baylor County , Haskell County, and King Counties .

history

Knox County was formed on February 1, 1858 from parts of Bexar County and Young County . The administrative organization was completed on March 20, 1886. It was named after Henry Knox , an American Revolutionary War general who fought in the Battle of Bunker Hill , and the United States' first Secretary of War .

One structure in the county is listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) as of March 15, 2020, the State Highway 16 Bridge at the Brazos River .

As of the 2000 census , Knox County had 4,253 people; 1,690 households and 1,166 families were counted. The population density was 2 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 74.4 percent white, 6.9 percent African American, 1.1 percent Native American, 0.2 percent Asian, 0.1 percent from the Pacific island area and 14.8 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 2.6 percent were from two or more races. 25.1 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
