The Lubbock County is a county in the state of Texas of the United States . The county seat is in Lubbock . The county is part of the dry counties , which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.
geography
The county is located in northwest Texas, about 50 miles east of the New Mexico border, and covers an area of 2,333 square kilometers, of which 3 square kilometers are water. It is bordered by counties in a clockwise direction: Hale County , Crosby County , Lynn County, and Hockley County .
history
Lubbock County was formed on August 21, 1876 from parts of Bexar County . The administrative organization was completed on March 10, 1891. It was named after Thomas Saltus Lubbock (1817-1862), who fought in the Texas War of Independence and as a strong supporter of secession as a lieutenant colonel in the Confederate Army during the American Civil War.
17 structures and sites in the county are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) as of March 16, 2020, with the Lubbock Lake Site having the status of a National Historic Landmark .

As of the 2000 census , Lubbock County had 242,628 people in 92,516 households and 60,135 families. The population density was 104 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 74.30 percent white, 7.67 percent African American, 0.59 percent Native American, 1.31 percent Asian, 0.04 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 14.15 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 1.96 percent were descended from two or more races. 27.45 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 92,516 households, 31.7 percent had children or young people living with them. 48.2 percent were married couples living together, 12.6 percent were single mothers and 35.0 percent were non-families. 26.9 percent were single households and 7.9 percent had people aged 65 or over. The average household size was 2.52 and the average family size was 3.10 people.
25.7 percent of the population was under 18 years old, 16.3 percent between 18 and 24, 27.9 percent between 25 and 44, 19.2 percent between 45 and 64, and 11.0 percent were 65 years of age or older. The average age was 30 years. For every 100 females there were 95.8 males and for every 100 females age 18 or over there were 92.6 males.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 32,198 , and the median income for a family is $ 41,067. Males had a median income of $ 29,961 versus $ 21,591 for females. The per capita income was $ 17,323. 12.0 percent of families and 17.8 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
