The Midland County is a county in the state of Texas of the United States . The county seat is in Midland .

geography

The county is located west of the geographic center of Texas, about 70 km from the southeastern border with New Mexico and has an area of ​​2336 square kilometers, of which 4 square kilometers are water. It is bordered by counties in a clockwise direction: Martin County , Glasscock County , Upton County , Ector County, and Andrews County .

history

Midland County was formed on March 4, 1885 from parts of Tom Green County . It was so named because it is on the Texas and Pacific Railway as the " Midland " between Fort Worth and El Paso .

Five structures in the county are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) as of March 18, 2020, including the Brown-Dorsey House , the George W. Bush Childhood Home, and the Fred and Juliette Turner House .

According to the 2000 census , Midland County had 116,009 people in 42,745 households and 30,947 families. The population density was 50 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 77.32 percent white, 6.98 percent African American, 0.64 percent Native American, 0.93 percent Asian, 0.03 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 12.17 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 1.92 percent were descended from two or more races. 29.03 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

The average household size was 2.68 and the average family size was 3.21 people.

30.2 percent of the population was under 18 years old, 8.8 percent between 18 and 24, 28.4 percent between 25 and 44, 20.9 percent between 45 and 64 and 11.6 percent were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 34 years. For every 100 females there were 93.4 males and for every 100 females age 18 or over there were 89.4 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $ 39,082 , and the median income for a family was $ 47,269. Males had a median income of $ 36,924 versus $ 24,708 for females. The per capita income was 20,369. 12.9 percent of the population and 10.3 percent of the families lived below the poverty line.
