The county is located near the geographic center of Texas and has an area of ​​3,319 square kilometers, of which 55 square kilometers are water. It is bordered in a clockwise direction by the following counties: Callahan County , Brown County , McCulloch County , Concho County , Runnels County, and Taylor County .

history

Coleman County was formed from parts of Brown County and Travis Counties on February 1, 1858 , and the administrative organization was completed on October 6, 1864. It was named after Robert M. Coleman (1797-1837), a soldier during the Texas Revolution and aide-de-camp of Sam Houston .

According to the 2000 census , Coleman County had 9,235 people in 3,889 households and 2,609 families. The population density was 3 people per square kilometer.
