The Culberson County is a county in the state of Texas of the United States . The county government is based in Van Horn .

The county is located west of the geographic center of Texas, borders the state of New Mexico to the north and has an area of 9875 square kilometers, of which 1 square kilometer is water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Otero Counties and Eddy Counties , both in New Mexico, Reeves Counties , Jeff Davis Counties , and Hudspeth Counties .
history
Culberson County was formed on March 10, 1911 from parts of El Paso County and the administrative organization completed the following year. It was named after David B. Culberson (1830-1900), a colonel in the Southern Army during the Civil War and later MP in the United States House of Representatives .
The first European to set foot in this country in 1583 was probably Antonio de Espejo , a Spanish conqueror who undertook several expeditions to New Mexico and Arizona (1582–1583) and met the Mescalero here, who were met by the Apaches at the beginning of the 19th century were evicted. The Indian supremacy in this area ended in 1849 with the beginning of the gold rush and the resulting immigration.
Ten buildings and sites in the county are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) (as of October 23, 2018).

As of the 2000 census , Culberson County had 2,975 people in 1,052 households and 797 families. The population density was 0 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 68.94 percent white, 0.71 percent African American, 0.47 percent Native American, 0.57 percent Asian and 27.13 percent from other ethnic groups; 2.18 percent were descended from two or more races. 72.24 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 1,052 households, 39.1 percent had children or young people living with them. 58.2 percent were married couples living together, 13.5 percent were single mothers and 24.2 percent were non-families. 21.5 percent were single households and 7.4 percent had people aged 65 or over. The average household size was 2.82 and the average family size was 3.30 people.
32.2 percent of the population was under 18 years old, 7.8 percent between 18 and 24, 25.8 percent between 25 and 44, 23.0 percent between 45 and 64 and 11.2 percent were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 33 years. For every 100 females there were 102.7 males and for every 100 females age 18 or over there were 97.1 males.
The median income for a household in the city is $ 25,882 , and the median income for a family is $ 28,547. Males had a median income of $ 22,500 versus $ 14,817 for females. The per capita income was $ 11,493. 21.5 percent of families and 25.1 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
