The Bosque County is a county in the state of Texas of the United States . The county seat is in Meridian .

The county is located northeast of the geographic center of Texas and has an area of ​​2597 square kilometers, of which 35 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Somervell County , Johnson County , Hill County , McLennan County , Coryell County , Hamilton County, and Erath Counties .

history

Bosque County was formed on February 4, 1854 from parts of McLennan County and the administrative organization was completed on August 7 of the same year. It was named after the Bosque River . This is called after the Spanish “Bosque” (German: forest ) because of the pronounced vegetation on its banks.

The Jens and Kari Ringness Farm is one of 39 entries for the county in the NRHP.

According to the 2000 census , Bosque County had 17,204 people in 6,726 households and 4,856 families. The population density was 7 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 90.75 percent white, 1.92 percent African American, 0.55 percent Native American, 0.11 percent Asian, 0.03 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 5.17 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 1.47 percent were descended from two or more races. 12.23 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

Of the 6,726 households, 29.5 percent had children or young people living with them. 60.6 percent were married, couples living together, 8.2 percent were single mothers and 27.8 percent were non-families. 25.4 percent were single households and 14.1 percent had people aged 65 or over. The average household size was 2.48 and the average family size was 2.95 people.

24.4 percent of the population was under 18 years old, 6.2 percent between 18 and 24, 23.8 percent between 25 and 44, 25.0 percent between 45 and 64 and 20.5 percent were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 42 years. For every 100 females there were 95.9 males and for every 100 females age 18 or over there were 92.3 males.

The median income for a household in the county is $ 34,181 , and the median income for a family is $ 40,763. Males had a median income of $ 31,669 versus $ 21,739 for females. The per capita income was $ 17,455. 8.9 percent of families and 12.7 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
