The Borden County is a county in the state of Texas of the United States . The county seat is in Gail . The county is part of the dry counties , which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

Borden County is located northwest of the geographic center of Texas and has an area of 2,347 square kilometers, of which 19 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Garza County , Scurry County , Mitchell County , Howard County , Martin County , Dawson County, and Lynn County .
history
Borden County was formed from parts of Bexar County on August 21, 1876 , and the administrative organization was completed on March 17, 1891. It was named after Gail Borden , a businessman, newspaper editor, land surveyor, co-author of the first Texas constitution and the first to patent the industrial production of condensed milk .

As of the 2000 census , Borden County had 729 people in 292 households and 216 families. The population density was 0.3 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 90.5 percent white, 0.1 percent African American, 0.3 percent Native American and 6.3 percent from other ethnic groups; 2.7 percent were from two or more races. 11.9 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 292 households, 30 percent had children or adolescents living with them. 65 percent were married couples living together, 6 percent were single mothers, and 26 percent were non-families. 23 percent were single households and 9 percent had people aged 65 or over. The average household size was 2.50 and the average family size was 2.93 people.
24.6 percent of the population was under 18 years old, 6.7 percent between 18 and 24, 27.4 percent between 25 and 44, 25.0 percent between 45 and 64 and 16.3 percent were 65 years of age or older. The average age was 40 years. For every 100 females there were 103.1 males and for every 100 females aged 18 and over there were 108.3 males.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 29,205 , and the median income for a family is $ 36,458. Males had a median income of $ 25,556 versus $ 21,607 for females. The per capita income was $ 18,364. 14.0 percent of the population and 11.8 percent of families lived below the poverty line.
