The county is located in southwest Texas, about 40 km off the Gulf of Mexico and has an area of ​​2302 square kilometers, of which 16 square kilometers are water. It is bordered by counties in a clockwise direction: Lavaca County , Jackson County , Calhoun County , Refugio County , Goliad County, and DeWitt County .

history

Victoria County was formed as the original county in 1836. It was named after Guadalupe Victoria , the first president of Mexico .

According to the 2000 census , Victoria County had 84,088 people in 30,071 households and 22,192 families. The population density was 37 people per square kilometer.
