The Victoria County is a county in the state of Texas of the United States . The county seat is Victoria .

The county is located in southwest Texas, about 40 km off the Gulf of Mexico and has an area of 2302 square kilometers, of which 16 square kilometers are water. It is bordered by counties in a clockwise direction: Lavaca County , Jackson County , Calhoun County , Refugio County , Goliad County, and DeWitt County .
history
Victoria County was formed as the original county in 1836. It was named after Guadalupe Victoria , the first president of Mexico .

According to the 2000 census , Victoria County had 84,088 people in 30,071 households and 22,192 families. The population density was 37 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 74.22 percent white, 6.30 percent African American, 0.53 percent Native American, 0.77 percent Asian, 0.04 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 15.92 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 2.22 percent were descended from two or more races. 39.20 percent of the population were of Hispanic or Latino American descent.
Of the 30,071 households, 37.2 percent had children or young people living with them. 56.7 percent were married couples living together, 12.7 percent were single mothers and 26.2 percent were non-families. 22.4 percent were single households and 9.1 percent had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.75 and the average family size was 3.23 people.
29.1 percent of the population was under 18 years old, 9.2 percent between 18 and 24, 28.1 percent between 25 and 44, 21.5 percent between 45 and 64 and 12.0 percent were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 34 years. For every 100 females there were 94.9 males and for every 100 females age 18 or over there were 91.7 males.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 38,732 , and the median income for a family is $ 44,443. Males had a median income of $ 35,484 versus $ 21,231 for females. The per capita income was $ 18,379. 10.5 percent of families and 12.9 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
