The Kaufman County is a county in the state of Texas of the United States . The county seat is in Kaufman .
geography
The county is located in northeast Texas, about 80 miles to the north from Oklahoma and about 150 km to the west from Arkansas and has an area of 2090 square kilometers, of which 54 square kilometers are water. It is bordered in a clockwise direction by the following counties: Hunt County , Van Zandt County , Henderson County , Ellis County , Dallas County, and Rockwall County .
history
Kaufman County was formed on February 26, 1848 from parts of Henderson County. The administrative organization was completed on August 7th of the same year. It was named after David Spangler Kaufman , a member of the Texas State Legislature and a member of the American House of Representatives . In 1845, Kaufman was the Texas Ambassador to the United States.
Eight structures and sites in the county are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) as of November 24, 2019, with the Walter C. Porter Farm having the status of a National Historic Landmark .

As of the 2000 census , there were 71,313 people in 24,367 households and 19,225 families in Kaufman County. The population density was 35 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 81.10 percent white, 10.53 percent African American, 0.61 percent Native American, 0.47 percent Asian, 0.02 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 5.66 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 1.61 percent were descended from two or more races. 11.11 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 24,367 households, 39.5 percent had children or young people living with them. 63.1 percent were married couples living together, 11.3 percent were single mothers and 21.1 percent were non-families. 17.8 percent were single households and 7.5 percent had people aged 65 or over. The average household size was 2.87 and the average family size was 3.24 people.
29.2 percent of the population was under 18 years old, 8.2 percent between 18 and 24, 29.5 percent between 25 and 44, 22.4 percent between 45 and 64 and 10.6 percent were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 35 years. For every 100 females there were 97.4 males and for every 100 females age 18 or over there were 94 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $ 44,783 , and the median income for a family was $ 50,354. Males had a median income of $ 35,537 versus $ 26,494 for females. The per capita income was $ 18,827. 7.8 percent of families and 10.5 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
