The county is located in the far east of Texas on the Sabine River , which also forms the border with Louisiana . Sabine County has an area of 1,493 square kilometers, of which 224 square kilometers are water. It borders on the following neighboring counties and parishes:

Sabine County was formed as the original county in 1837. It was named after the Sabine River .

According to the 2010 census , Sabine County had 10,834 people in 4,284 households. The population density was 8.5 people per square kilometer.
The racial the population was composed of 89.1 percent white, 7.2 percent African American, 0.5 percent Native American, 0.3 percent Asian and other ethnic groups; 1.6 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 3.2 percent of the population. Statistically, there were 2.37 people in each of the 4,284 households.
