The Hill County is a county in the state of Texas of the United States . The county seat is in Hillsboro .

The county is located approximately 100 km northeast of the geographic center of Texas and has an area of ​​2553 square kilometers, of which 60 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Johnson County , Ellis County , Navarro County , Limestone County , McLennan County, and Bosque Counties .

history

Hill County was formed on February 7, 1853 from parts of Navarro County. It was named after George Washington Hill (1814-1860), a minister of war and navy for the Republic of Texas and a member of its state legislature .

As of the 2000 census , Hill County had 32,321 people in 12,204 households and 8,725 families. The population density was 13 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 84.16 percent white, 7.40 percent African American, 0.44 percent Native American, 0.25 percent Asian, 0.02 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 6.02 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 1.71 percent were descended from two or more races. 13.49 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

Of the 12,204 households, 30.7 percent had children or adolescents living with them. 57.5 percent were married couples living together 10.1 percent were single mothers and 28.5 percent were non-families. 24.8 percent were single households and 12.5 percent had people aged 65 or over. The average household size was 2.58 and the average family size was 3.07 people.

25.9 percent of the population was under 18 years old, 8.5 percent between 18 and 24, 24.9 percent between 25 and 44, 23.4 percent between 45 and 64 and 17.3 percent were 65 years old or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 96.7 males, and for every 100 females age 18 or over there were 93.7 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $ 31,600 , and the median income for a family was $ 37,791. Males had a median income of $ 29,438 versus $ 20,765 for females. The per capita income was $ 15,514. 11.9 percent of families and 15.7 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
